Bob was born and raised in Warroad, Minnesota. After completing high
school, he entered the military where he served as a combat medic in
Viet Nam. At the end of his enlistment period, he enrolled at the
Conservatory of Music in Mexico City to study violin making. While in
Mexico, he also studied guitar making with master luthier Danial
Valdes. After completing his studies in Mexico, Bob enrolled in the
Violin Making School of America at Salt Lake City, Utah. He completed
the three year training course there, studying under Paul Hart. After
these studies, Bob opened his shop and studio where he has been making
and repairing instruments since 1973. He met and married his wife, Pam,
in 1996. Pam is also from northern Minnesota. She was raised on a farm
outside of Roseau. Pam has been teaching music for 26 years, both
privately and in the Roseau school system. She specializes in piano,
voice, and college-bound theory. In addition, she and Bob teach private
lessons at their studio in Warroad. They currently provide lessons in
piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, mandolin, guitar, and banjo. Their
son, Zach, joined them in 1998. They enjoy making music together!
